I just spent the last 2 hours plus trying every method available on online forums trying to recovery my data file which mysteriously appeared unsaved as I opened it today.

I need to accept that it is gone and redo it quickly. But compounded by the fact that you know you’re screwing up the next 6 deadlines (all due by next week), I can’t help but to feel utterly depressed.
